Winter training 2003-12-07

Hey folks

This Sunday its going to be same time, same place as before, so thats 08:00 Sunday mng at the Old Milwaukee Lodge.

Bring both your Skis and Snow shoes, so we can cover all eventualities. If you dont have both, just bring what U got, and well make do :)

Plan is to have a shorter 3 hour session this week, and head up to Mt Hyak, then onto the end of the Hidden Vally trail, before heading back down.

I am hoping they might have started grooming the trails, but chances are they wont until next week :( But that should be good news for next weekend :)

Some folks have asked for some Saturday training as well, so next weekend (13th and 14th) I am hoping Snoqualmie Nordic center will be open, then we can do some XC ski on Saturday, and maybe something off trail on Sunday?

Its also getting close to putting together entries for the race. I have about 14 folks who expressed an interest, but only 4 that have arrived at training so far.

If those of U who really want to race, and are willing to cough up the enttry fee can either turn up for one of the trainings or email me your confirmation, I'll make sure to get you into a team somewhere :)

I would like to get those entries finalized and of to Cindy by around the middle of the month.

Cheers

Steve

Here it is, a few more words on yesterdays training.

No sunshine this week, but LOADS of new snow, and absolutely incredible conditions.

Rented BC ski's this time, thats the ones with 3/4 metal edges, and these worked much better for me on my third time out on XC ski's, but also the conditions where MUCH better, so that helped a great deal to.

Started of on ski's for about 25 yards, then switched to snow shoes till we reached the road above the water tower, then managed the rest of the ascent to the top of Mt Hyak, and all the rest of the way, on ski's.

Although the trail hadnt been groomed on the day, someone had obviously flattened it down recently, so the 4-6 inches of fresh snow on top of a firm base made for very good conditions on the way up.

At the top, we bumped into a couple of other folks who where out on their AT ski's, just heading out for a quick once around.

After reaching the peak, we headed back down to the Radio Masts, and from there on round to the Hidden Valley trail.

We got to just past where the trail splits, before we got to our time limit, plus the trail was getting a little steep, and the snow was very deep, so we turned round and headed back.

The descent to the parking lot was so much easier this time round. Although the folks on snow shoes would still probably have beaten me down :(

Ended up back at the car after 3.5 hours, and a very enjoyable Sunday mng spent in the mountains.

See U next weekend - Saturday, rather than Sunday next week.
